GLENVIEW, Ill. - The DePaul men's golf team put together one of its best rounds of the season and finished Northwestern's Kemper Sports Spring Invitational in fifth place.  Playing at The Glen Club, DePaul junior Moritz Ackerhans shot a career-low 68 (-4) to finish in sixth place in the individual standings.

With the sun shinning and the temperatures rising throughout the day, so did Ackerhans.  The Blue Demons junior  began Tuesday's final round in tie for 27th place and used five birdies -- including four on the back nine, to move up the leaderboard and finished in a career-best sixth place.

Ackerhans tallied nine birdies during the tournament and combined for 218 (+2) score which is his best three-round score of the season.  His four-under, 68 is the best round played by a Blue Demon since the 2009 season when current teammate Russell Budd carded a 67 during the first round of the Xavier Invitational on Oct. 5.

Budd, who started Tuesday's final round in a tie for sixth place, carded a two-over 74 in the third round. He finished in a two-way tie for seventh place.  Highlighted by an eagle on the 14th hole today, Budd was consistent throughout the tournament and recorded nine birdies during the three rounds.

John Pavelko recorded his first top 10 finish of his career and was locked in a three-way tie for ninth place.  The senior carded a three-over 75 on Tuesday and was plus-three for the tournament.  Pavelko's three-round score of 220 was also a career-low for the Chanhassen, Minn., native.

Rounding out DePaul's top five were Brad Stephens (235) in tie for 61st and Adrian Halimi (236) in group knotted at 66th.  Stephens' 61st place finish is the senior's best finish of the season.

No. 34 Northwestern claimed the team title after combining for an 844 (-11).  Ohio State was second (856), Illinois State third (881), St. John's fourth (887) and DePaul (890) rounded out the top five.   The Blue Demons were 10 strokes ahead of sixth-placed IUPUI (900).

Northwestern's No. 75 Jack Perry took home the individual honors and was 16-under (200) for the tournament.

DePaul's Jan Juelicher, who was competing as an individual, also carded a 236 for the tournament and tied for 66th with Halimi.

The Blue Demons close out their season at the BIG EAST Championship, April 28-30 at the Reunion Club in Reunion, Fla.
