Hewett leads Blue Demons on Final Day

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Jonathan Hewett posted identical rounds of 71 on Sunday to lead DePaul at the Hawkeye Invitational. The Blue Demons completed round two in the morning before playing the third and final round at Finkbine GC.

Hewett’s pair of 71’s followed a 77 in the opening round to give him a tournament score of 219 (+3). He finished in a group in 26th place to lead the DePaul contingent. James Lelliott finished three shots behind Hewett with a tournament total of 222 (+6). Lelliott finished his second round with a two-over score of 74 followed by an even-par 72 on his third circuit to tie for 38th place.

Freddy Thomas, Jonathan Goldstein and Charlie Spencer-White concluded play for the Blue Demons with Thomas tied for 64th, Goldstein tied for 68th and Spence-White finished 79th. Thomas went 79-71-79 over the weekend for a total score of 229 (+13). Goldstein finished Sunday with a 74 that followed two rounds of 78 for a total of 230 (+14) and Spencer-White carded a 75 and 77 on Sunday for a weekend score of 236 (+20).

Iowa State’s Nick Voke finished on top of the individual leaderboard with a nine-under total of 207 while Texas Tech won the team title by four shots over host Iowa with a score of 855 (-9). The Blue Demons finished 12th out of 14 teams with a team total of 895 (+31).

Up next for the Blue Demons is the 2017 BIG EAST Championship from April 30-May 2 at Callawassie Island Club on Okatie, S.C.
