Blue Demons Tied for Fifth After Round One at BIG EAST Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. – The DePaul men’s golf team sits in a three-way tie for fifth place after one round at the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday.  Playing the Watson Course at the Reunion Resort, Moritz Ackerhans leads the Blue Demons and sits in a group knotted in 14th place after carding a one-over 73.

“We still have a lot of work to do,” DePaul head coach Betty Kaufmann after her team completed play on Sunday.  

“We left some shots on the course, but overall the guys stayed patient and fought through the day. Hopefully we will be role in some putts tomorrow,” Kaufmann added.

The Blue Demons combined for a 297 on Sunday and are tied for fifth place with Villanova and Louisville.  Notre Dame leads the 12-team field after carding 288 on the afternoon.  Cincinnati’s David Tepe leads the field and is three-under (69).

The Blue Demons combined for nine birdies while Moritz Hausweiler started his day with an eagle on the first hole.  

Ackernhans is in a five-way tie for 14th place after finishing one over (73).  John Pavelko and Adrian Halimi are one stroke behind their teammate in a group tied at 19th.

Russell Budd is four over and Hausweiler finished the opening round five-over and is tied for 42nd.

Round two begins at 8 a.m. (ET) on Monday, while the Blue Demons tee off between 9:40 a.m. and 10:20 a.m.  Live stats for the tournament are available on Golfstat.
