Budd Goes One Over to Lead Blue Demons
April 29, 2012 Round 1 Results ORLANDO, Fla. – DePaul junior Russell Budd birdied four holes on the back nine to finish with a 73 in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday. Budd is tied for 17th after 18 holes while the team is in 10th place. Budd is tied with three others in 17th place after a four-over 40 on the front nine Sunday before a three-under 33 on the back nine. He recorded birdies on holes 10, 13, 15 and 16 before a bogey on the 18th hole to finished with his one-over score of 73. Moritz Ackerhans is tied for 34th while Jan Juelicher and Ben Westley are in a group in 40th place. Ackerhans carded a 76 (+4) in his first round and Juelicher and Westley finished with identical scores of 77 (+5). John Pavelko posted a score of 81 (+9) on Sunday and is tied for 52nd place. The Blue Demons are 10th out of 12 BIG EAST teams and sit just four shots behind ninth-place Marquette. Notre Dame is on top of the team leaderboard with a first-round score of 284 (-4). Louisville is a shot back in second followed by Villanova in third and a three-way tie for fourth between Georgetown, St. John’s and Seton Hall. Louisville’s Justin Dorward holds the individual lead after a five-under score of 67 with Notre Dame’s Paul McNamara a shot back in second place.
