FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Highlighted by freshman Adrian Halimi’s hole-in-one, the DePaul men’s golf team closed out the Ram Masters Invitational on Tuesday at the Fort Collins Country Club. The Blue Demons finished in eighth place while John Pavelko, Russell Budd and Moritz Ackerhans all finished in the top 40.
Pavelko, who entered the day in a five-way tie for 19th place, slipped in the standings after shooting a 76 in the final round and would finish in a tie for 28th. His 28th-place finish is the seniors’ highest finish of his career.
Budd made a huge jump in the standing by carding a team-best 72 in the final round. Budd’s 72 is the seniors lowest score since carding a 71 in the opening round of the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational (April 21). The senior finished the tournament in a tie for 36th.
Ackerhans also finished as part of the five-way tie for 36th. The junior carded a 223 for the tournament and shot +4 in each of the final two rounds.
Playing in his first collegiate tournament, Halimi placed 57th with a three-round total of 227. Not only did the freshman register his first hole-in-one he also carded his best round of the tournament -- a 73 on the final day of action.
Moritz Hausweiler closed out the DePaul contingent in 71st. The Blue Demon freshman carded an 81 on Tuesday.
Wichita State won the team title with a three-round total of 859. Colorado State’s Jordan Wetsch won the individual title with a tournament score of 210.
DePaul returns to the Midwest and will compete in the Windon Memorial at the Skokie Country Club, Sept. 23-24.
