Windon Memorial - Final Results
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The DePaul golf team wrapped up the Windon Memorial Invitational on Monday at the Knollwood Club. The Blue Demons, who were playing in their first tournament of the season, took 16th place, while senior Moritz Ackerhans tied for 29th in the individual standings.
Ackerhans started Monday in a seven-way tie for 15th place after 36 holes. The senior slid in standings after carding a 78 (+6) in the final round. The Keil, Germany native finished the tournament six over after shooting rounds of 70 (-2), 74 (+2) and 78 (+6).
Starting the final round on the 10th hole, Ackerhans struggled and recorded six bogies on the back nine. As the senior turned to the front nine, he refocused and parred the first two holes before recording a birdie on third which set the stage for the final six holes.
Ackerhans tied for 29th with Ohio State’s Grant Weaver. Chris O’Neil from Michigan, who started the day at the top of the leaderboard, took home championship honors and finished the tournament eight under.
Northwestern, the tournament host, earned the team championship and combined for a score of 860 (-4).
Jonathan Hewett carded the low-round of the day for the Blue Demons – a 75. Competing in his first collegiate tournament, the freshman carded three birdies in the final round and had five total during the two-day tournament. He also eagled the 16th hole during the first round.
Also competing for the Blue Demons were – Adrian Halimi (t66th), James Lelliott (t79th) and Jan Juelicher (86th). Paul Tardella competed as an individual and finished 85th.
DePaul returns to the course this weekend and hosts its annual tournament – the John Dallio Memorial – Sept. 28-29 at Ruffled Feathers in Lemont, Ill.
