BATAVIA, Ohio – A strong push on its second circuit of Elks Run Golf Club moved the DePaul golf team up to fourth place after 36 holes of play on Sunday. The Blue Demons stood in 10th place following Sunday morning’s first round before jumping six spots up the team leaderboard in round two.

Senior Freddy Thomas and freshman Joe McCarthy led the Blue Demons on day one as each player is among the top 10 individually. Thomas is tied for sixth while McCarthy – playing in his first collegiate event – is tied for eighth place.

Thomas recorded rounds of 74 and 70 and is tied with Butler’s Logan Sabins for sixth place. McCarthy turned in the best round of the day for the Blue Demons with a 69 in the second round that followed an opening round of 76 to place him among six players in eighth place.

Bobby Thomas is in a group in 33rd place followed by Charlie Spencer-White in a tie for 50th and Garret Buckley in a tie for 74th place. Thomas posted rounds of 79 and 72 while Spencer-White carded a 75 and an 80. Buckley opened with an 82 before recording a 79 in the second round.

Butler leads the field with a team score of 572 (+4) ahead of second-place Cal Poly at 586 (+18). The Blue Demons posted a team score of 594 (+26) and are just three shots behind third-place Oakland. Butler’s Patrick Allgeier leads the field following a two-round total of 140 (-2). Freddy Thomas is four shots back and McCarthy is five strokes behind the leader.

The final 18 holes are scheduled for Monday morning at 9 a.m. ET at Elks Run Golf Club. The course is playing at 6,845 yards with a par of 71 for the event.
