ERIN, Wis. – DePaul’s Moritz Ackerhans sits just four shots off the lead after the first round of the Erin Hills Intercollegiate. As a team, the Blue Demons are in 13th place while Ackerhans is tied for 17th after 18 holes.

A cloudy afternoon approached the field early in the morning as Ackerhans shot an even-par 72 for round one. The senior stayed even keel all day nailing 12 pars to go along with three birdies and three bogeys. Ackerhans enjoyed the back nine starting with two birdies and then parred the last seven holes.

Freshmen Jonathan Hewett and James Lelliott both carded rounds of 77 after their first circuit of Erin Hills and find themselves in a tie for 62nd. Alex Lloyd and Adrian Halimi came in with rounds of 81 (+9) and are tied for 78th.

No. 10/7 Stanford holds a six-shot lead after the first round with a team score of 280 (-8). No. 4/4 UCLA finds itself in second place at 286 (-2). After scoring 307 (+19), DePaul is seven strokes behind Michigan State who is 12th.

Zach Gaugert from tournament host Marquette and Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers share the individual lead with a four-under 68. Ackerhans is just four shots back and 32 players are at even par or better heading into the final two rounds.

Monday’s second round is scheduled to start with 8:30 a.m. tee times all starting on the first hole at Erin Hills GC.
