ERIN, Wis. – The DePaul golf team wrapped up the Erin Hills Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Erin Hills GC. The Blue Demons tied for 13th place, while senior Moritz Ackerhans tied for 30th in the individual standings.
Ackerhans started Tuesday in a tie for 11th place after 36 holes. The senior slid into a tie for 30th after bringing in a round of 78 (+6). Ackerhans finished six-over par for the tournament after rounds of 72 (E), 72 (E) and 76 (+6).
After going four-under for the back nine in the first two rounds, Ackerhans struggled and recorded five bogeys. The Kiel, Germany native then focused in and parred six of his final nine holes.
Ackerhans tied for 30th with Wisconsin’s Zachary Balit and Northwestern’s Matthew Negri. Patrick Rodgers from Stanford, who has been the leader at the end of the first two rounds, held on and took home the individual championship and finished seven under for the tournament.
Rodgers and his teammates from Stanford were crowned the team champion and combined for a score of 851 (-13).
James Lelliott carded the low round for the Blue Demons with a 77 (+5) on Tuesday. The freshman brought one birdie in the final round and tallied four during for the three-day tournament.
Also competing for the Blue Demons were Jonathan Hewett, Adrian Halimi and Alex Lloyd. The first year golfer finished in a tie for 58th ending his tournament with a round of 78 (+6). Halimi joined his teammate in carding a 78 (+6) but finished in a tie for 77th. Lloyd came in with a round of 82 (+10) and finished in 80th.
The Blue Demons have the next 13 days off before they travel to Beallsville, Md. for the Georgetown Intercollegiate. This two-day event runs Oct. 21-22 at The Members Club at Four Streams.
