McCarthy Leads DePaul Through First Two Rounds

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – DePaul freshman Joe McCarthy led the DePaul golf team over the first 36 holes of the Fighting Irish Classic on Sunday. Overall, McCarthy is tied for 17th place following a two-round score of 141 (+1).

McCarthy opened the event with a 71 (+1) in the first round followed by a 70 (E) in the second round. He is in a group in 17th place heading into Monday’s final 18 holes. McCarthy has been the top finisher for the Blue Demons in each of the first two events prior to the Fighting Irish Classic.

Freddy Thomas recorded the best round of the day for the Blue Demons with a 67 (-3) in the first round. He came back in the afternoon’s second round with a 76 (+6) and sits in a tie for 23rd place with a 36-hole total of 143 (+3).

Bobby Thomas is tied for 47th, Charlie Spencer-White is tied for 60th and Garret Buckley is in a group in 69th place after two rounds. Thomas carded rounds of 71 and 76 for a 147 (+7) while Spencer-White has a total of 150 (+10) following scores of 73 and 77. Buckley recorded a 75 and 78 for a tournament total of 153 (+13).

Host Notre Dame leads the team leaderboard with a total of 542 (-18) through the first two circuits. DePaul is tied for 11th with BIG EAST member Georgetown following a 581 (+21). Notre Dame’s Davis Chatfield holds a one-shot lead with a total of 135 (-5).

Monday’s final 18 holes at Warren Golf Course are scheduled for tee times on the first and 10th holes. The Blue Demons are scheduled to start at 8:48 a.m. ET on the 10th hole.
