Moritz Ackerhans leads the Blue Demons into the Carlton Oaks Invitational

CHICAGO – The DePaul golf team tees off the 2014 spring season in Santee, Calif. for the Carlton Oaks Invitational at Carlton Oaks Golf Course, Feb. 10-11, which is hosted by Western Illinois. The Blue Demons are one of eight teams competing in the invitational.

Joining DePaul in the field includes Bradley, Cal State-Bakersfield, Fort Wayne, Omaha, Oakland and host Western Illinois. Individuals from San Diego State will also partake in this field.

Competing for DePaul are Moritz Ackerhans, Jonathan Hewett, James Lelliott, Jan Juelicher and Paul Tardella.

Coming out of the fall, Ackerhans led the Blue Demons with a 12-round stroke average of 74.25. The Kiel, Germany native had four rounds at or below par and led DePaul in four of the five tournaments.

Hewett finished the fall with an average of 75.42 strokes per round which included two top 15 finishes. Lelliott ranks third on the team with a 12-round stroke average of 76.91 and one top 10 finish. He rounds out the freshmen duo which combined to average below 77 per round.

Ackerhans, Hewett and Lelliott all carded a team-best round of 69 during the fall.
Juelicher came on strong for the Blue Demons to conclude the fall. His rounds of 73, 75 and 76 were good enough for a tie for 24th at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.

Tardella concluded the fall with a stroke average of 79.17 per round. His best round came at the John Dallio Memorial where he shot a three-over 75.

The Carlton Oaks Invitational marks the opening tournament for DePaul’s spring season. Following the Carlton Oaks Invitational, the Blue Demons travel to Hilton Head, S.C. for a head-to-head matchup with Ohio University.
