Golf Opens Spring Schedule With Yestingsmeier Match Play

DADE CITY, Fla. – The DePaul golf team starts its spring swing in Florida with the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play hosted by Ball State. The eight-team event takes place at Lake Jovita Country Club in Dade City, Fla. on Monday and Tuesday.

Lake Jovita’s South Course features a 7,153-yard layout over a par 72 that eight schools will compete in a match-play format over two days. Joining host Ball State and DePaul at the event are Drake, Eastern Michigan, Loyola-Chicago, Miami (Ohio), Ohio and Toledo.

The Blue Demons take on Toledo in their first match and face either Eastern Michigan or Ohio in the second match. The six-player team for DePaul includes Joe McCarthy, Freddy Thomas, Ronnie Griggs, Bobby Thomas, Garret Buckley and Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan.

Live scoring for all matches is available at GolfStat with the Blue Demons opening the first match at 8:15 a.m. ET. Seeding for the tournament was based off GolfStat rankings with DePaul as the No. 6 seed. The event is named after long-time Ball State golf coach Earl Yestingsmeier who guided the program over 36 seasons.
