Blue Demons take on Ohio University and play at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

CHICAGO – The DePaul golf team looks to build from its second-place finish at the Carlton Oaks Invitational when it travels to Okatie, S.C. for a medal match against Ohio on Saturday at Callawassie Creek Country Club. Following the duel with the Bobcats, the Blue Demons compete at the ninth-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, Feb. 17-18, in Hilton Head, S.C.
Traveling to South Carolina are Moritz Ackerhans, Jonathan Hewett, James Lelliott, Adrian Halimi and Jan Juelicher.
In last year’s matchup with Ohio, the Bobcats took the match-play round 4-1. Ackerhans and Halimi each halved their respective matches to earn the Blue Demons a point.
The medal match will be played at Callawassie Creek CC which is an award-winning championship 27-hole course featuring three distinctly different courses. It is also the site of the BIG EAST Championship, April 27-29.
With the medal match in the books, DePaul joins tournament host Francis Marion, Austin Peay, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Cleveland State, Dayton, Elon, High Point, Ohio, Presbyterian College, Radford, Richmond, USC Aiken, Virginia Commonwealth, Wofford College, and William and Mary at the ninth annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
Two rounds will be played on Monday while the final 18 holes will be played out on Tuesday morning. A shotgun start will kick off play both days at 7:30 a.m. (CT).
At last year’s Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, the Blue Demons finished in 11th place out of 18 teams. Halimi finished with a three-round score of 230 placing him in a tie for 37th. Ackerhans finished six shots behind Halimi and ended in a tie for 57th. Juelicher concluded his tournament with a score of 241.
DePaul wrapped up a second place finish at the Carlton Oaks Invitational on Tuesday. Ackerhans tied his season-low score of 221 (+5) en route to a second place finish. Freshman Jonathan Hewett finished in a tie for 11th after scoring 233 (+17). Fellow first-year golfer James Lelliott joined Hewett in the top 20 after he carded a 239 (+23), tying him for 19th.
On the year, Ackerhans leads DePaul with a 74.13 stroke average and has two top 10 finishes. Hewett and Lelliott both boast a top 10 finish and have an average round score under 78.
Following its trip to S.C., DePaul travels to Dade City, Fla. for the USF Invitational. This three-day tournament takes place at Lake Jovita Country Club Mar. 2-4.
