Golf Launches Spring Campaign at Texas-San Antonio Intercollegiate



CHICAGO The DePaul men’s golf team opens its 2008 spring schedule this week at the 13th annual Texas-San Antonio Intercollegiate.  The Blue Demons join 15 teams on Monday and Tuesday at the Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.

The 54-hole tournament begins on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.  Two rounds will be played during the first day and the final 18 holes will follow on Tuesday.  DePaul joins a field of competition that brings squads from Air Force, Central Arkansas, Illinois State, Louisiana-Monroe, Marshall, McNeese State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Tech, Texas State and Wichita State in addition to host UTSA.

DePaul comes off a successful fall campaign that was highlighted by a team victory at the Georgetown Intercollegiate and a second-place finish at the BIG EAST/MAC Challenge.  Senior Matthew McMahon carries a team-best scoring average of 72.5, while junior Cory Blenkush follows at 72.9 shots per round.

The Oak Hills Country Club boasts a par-71, 6,765 yard course.  The 2007 Texas-San Antonio Intercollegiate saw the Blue Demons place fifth out of 17 teams, while Sam Houston State won the team title.  Will Cumberland, Greg Doherty and Blenkush finished in a tie for 21st place with identical scores of 224.
