Blue Demons Finish Sixth at Wexford Intercollegiate



HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The DePaul Blue Demons finished Tuesday where they started in sixth place at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. Michael Furci fired a career-best tying 70 to lead the Blue Demons on day two as he joined third-place finisher Ben Westley in the top 10 in a group in sixth place.

Westley shot a 73 in the second round to finish the tournament with a one-under total of 143 after a 70 on Monday. The sophomore was just one of five players in the field to play the tournament under par and finished in a group of three players in third place.

Furci's 70 was the best round of the day along with Davidson's Jackson Taylor and Wake Forest's Lee Bedford. Taylor and Bedford finished the tournament in a tie for first place at 142 (-2) while Furci's 70 combined with his first round of 74 left him with an even par score of 144. His performace matched his career-best round of 70 set in the first round of the Adams Cup of Newport at the start of the Fall campaign earlier this season.

Charles Boucher tallied his second 76 in as many rounds to finish in a group at 41st while Greg Doherty followed up an opening round of 79 with a 77 for a tie for 58th. Russell Budd shot an 85 on Tuesday morning to finish in a group in 81st place.

Bedford led Wake Forest to the team title as the Demon Deacons combined to shot 583 (+7). Host Francis Marion finished second at 584 just ahead of Davidson in third with a team total of 589. Wofford was fourth at 592 and William and Mary was fifth at 594 just a stroke ahead of DePaul's total of 595 for sixth place.

Up next for DePaul is the USF Invitational, Mar. 5-7, in Dade City, Fla.
