Golf in 12th Place After Day One of Ron Smith/USF Invitational



Round One Results

TAMPA, Fla. – The DePaul men’s golf team stands in 12th place after day one of the Ron Smith/USF Invitational at the Lake Jovita Country Club.  Junior Matthew McMahon holds a tie for seventh place in the individual standings after leading the Blue Demons with a first-round score of 72.

McMahon is tied with four other golfers after carding identical scores of 36 on both the front and back nine.  He sits even at par and six strokes off field-leading Ben Spitz of Rhode Island.

 

Junior Will Cumberland carries the second spot for the Blue Demons after shooting a 77.  He is followed by freshman Greg Doherty, who carded a 78, and sophomore Cory Blenkush, who shot a 79.

 

DePaul holds a team score of 306 and sits two strokes behind host and BIG EAST rival South FloridaMiddle Tennessee State’s score of 288 leads the team standings with 36 holes left to play.

 

The Blue Demons lead Missouri State, Austin Peay State, Bowling Green State, Florida Atlantic and Marshall entering Saturday’s round two.  The tournament concludes with a final 18 holes on Sunday.
