Golf Finishes 12th at Ron Smith/USF Invitational



Final Results

TAMPA, Fla. - Junior Matthew McMahon recorded a two-under-par final round as the DePaul men’s golf team wrapped up a weekend at the Ron Smith/USF Invitational on Sunday.  The Blue Demons finished 12th out of the 17 teams competing in the three day tournament at the Lake Jovita Country Club.

 

McMahon’s final round score of 70 brought his 54-hole total to 217.  He finished the tournament one stroke over par in a three-way tie for seventh place with Middle Tennessee State’s Chas Narramore and Craig Smith.

 

Freshman Greg Doherty closed out the tournament with a final round score of 76.  His total of 231 earned a three-way tie for 59th.  Sophomore Collin Piercy wrapped up the weekend with a par round of 72, bringing his three-day score to 233.  He tied three other golfers for 65th and was followed by sophomore Cory Blenkush, who finished 69th with a total of 234.

 

Junior Will Cumberland and sophomore Nick Martin both carded a 54-hole total of 236 and tied four other golfers for 71st.

 

DePaul recorded a team score of 909 and finished four strokes ahead of BIG EAST rival South FloridaMiddle Tennessee State won the team title with a score of 869, while Mike Van Sickle of BIG EAST rival Marquette shot a 213 to win the individual crown.

 

The Blue Demons return to action March 18-20 at the Ron Moore Invitational in Goodyear, Arizona.
