DePaul Finishes 18th at Ron Smith USF Invite
DADE CITY, Fla. Michael Furci playing as an individual fired an even-par 72 to finish the three-day Ron Smith USF Invitational at DePaul’s top finisher in 47th place. As a team, the Blue Demons were 18th with a three-round total of 895 (+31) at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. Furci’s 72 on Sunday followed rounds of 72 on Friday and 76 on Saturday to finish in a group at four-over (220) in 47th place. In the team scoring, Nick Martin and Greg Doherty led DePaul’s fivesome at five-over and six-over par. Martin totaled 221 (75-74-72) over the three-day span while Doherty went 72-75-75 for a total of 222 strokes. Martin was tied for 52nd and Doherty was among players in 57th place. Cory Blenkush and Ben Westley finished at +10 with 226 strokes. Blenkush carded two 75’s before a final round of 76 on Sunday. Westley shot a 74 and 73 before a 79 in Sunday’s third round. Charles Boucher was tied for 113th with a three-day total of 241 (79-79-83). Texas Tech and Florida Southern finished with identical six-under totals of 858 before Texas Tech won the team title by three strokes in a playoff. DePaul travels west to Arroyo Grande, Calif., for the Cal Poly Invitational. The tournament is set to take place Mar. 26-27 at the Cypress Ridge Gold Course. The Blue Demons will return to Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club, April 19-21, for the 2009 BIG EAST Championship.
