Golf Heads to California for Cuesta Title Intercollegiate



CHICAGO – The DePaul golf team travels to Arroyo Grande, California this week to compete in Cal Poly’s Cuesta Title Intercollegiate.  The tournament at Cypress Ridge Golf Course opens Thursday with two rounds and concludes Friday with the final 18 holes.

 

DePaul joins a field of 18 teams that includes British Columbia, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge, Cal State San Marcos, Claremont-McKenna, Gonzaga, Idaho, Idaho State, Loyola Marymount, Portland, Sacramento State, San Francisco, UC Riverside, Utah State, Utah Valley State and two teams from host Cal Poly.

 

Thursday’s action tees off at 10 a.m. (CST) and Friday’s final round begins at 9:30 a.m. The Cypress Ridge Golf Course is a par 72 measuring 6,761 yards.

 

DePaul did not play at last year’s Cuesta Title Intercollegiate where Cal State Bakersfield won with a combined score of 857.  Travis Bertoni of Cal Poly took the individual crown with a 54-hole total of 207.

 

Junior Matthew McMahon led the Blue Demons in each their last two tournaments and carries a 74.3 stroke average for the season.  He finished in a tie for seventh place at the USF Invitational in early March and earned a tie for 23rd at Denver’s Ron Moore Invitational last week.  Freshman Greg Doherty holds DePaul’s second-best average at 74.4 strokes per round.
