Westley Places Third, Team Finishes Fifth at Cardinal Collegiate



JASPER, Ind. - Ben Westley and Michael Furci posted top 20 finishes to lead DePaul to a fifth-place showing at the BSU Cardinal Collegiate this weekend. Westley took third place while Furci finished in a tie for 19th.

Westley shot a 74 in the final round after opening the tournament with a 70 and a 75 on Saturday. His three-day total of 219 (+3) put him six shots behind individual medalist Matt Schneider from Bowling Green. Schneider put together consecutive rounds of 71 for a three-round total of 213 (-3). Westley posted his second top 10 finish with his best 54-hole total of the season.

Furci notched his best round of the weekend with a 72 on Sunday to move into the top 20. The sophomore started the day in a tie for 32nd and he finished the tournament with four other players in 19th place. Furci improved in each round of the tournament with a 79 in the first round on Saturday morning followed by a 74 in Saturday's second round and his 72 over the final 18 holes for a 225 (+9).

Greg Doherty finished in a tie for 34th just ahead of Charles Boucher in a group in 39th. Doherty shot a 73 on Sunday to finish at 229 (+13) while Boucher posted a tournament total of 231 (+15) following his 79 in the third round. Mike Tuel carded an 80 in the third round to finish 69th with three-round score of 241 (+25).

Evansville won the team title with a three-round total of 889. The Purple Aces were followed by Bowling Green (891), Eastern Kentucky (893) and Detroit (899). DePaul finished fifth with a team score of 903.

Up next for the Blue Demons is the adidas Hoosier Invitational hosted by Indiana. The tournament takes place on April 3-4 at the IU Championship Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.
