Golf Takes 10th Place at Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational
BRASELTON, Ga. The DePaul men’s golf team finished in 10th place as the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational came to a close on Tuesday. Junior Nick Martin paced the Blue Demons and finished in a tie for 14th following Kennesaw State’s tournament at Chateau Elan Resort. Martin carded a final round of 75 on Tuesday after posting scores of 76 and 74 on Monday. Through three rounds, he shot par on 35 holes and recorded a total score of 225. Senior Will Cumberland finished the tournament eight strokes behind Martin and earned a tie for 32nd place with a 54-hole score of 233. Junior Cory Blenkush and sophomore Greg Doherty carded identical scores of 78 on Tuesday. Blenkush tied for 46th place with a three-round score of 239, while Doherty shared 52nd place with a 54-hole total of 241. Senior Matthew McMahon rounded out DePaul’s showing with a three-round tally of 245 and a 58th place finish. Kennesaw State won the team title with a combined score of 878, while Campbell followed in second place with a total of 900. The Blue Demons posted a score of 934 to finish three strokes behind ninth-place Jacksonville and four strokes away from eighth-place Wyoming. Andrew An of Mercer, Gideon Pienaar of Central Arkansas and Chris Wolfe of Armstrong Atlantic ended the tournament in a three-way tie for first place as each golfer carded a three-round score of 215. The Blue Demons travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas next week for the Arkansas State Indian Classic. The tournament runs Monday, April 7 through Tuesday, April 8 at Spring Creek Golf Club.
