CHICAGO – DePaul freshman James Lelliott was named the BIG EAST Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week it was announced on Tuesday by the league office. Lelliott earned his first career weekly honor after leading the Blue Demons to a fourth place finish at the FAU Spring Break Championship.
Last week, Lelliott carded rounds of 75 (+4), 67 (-4) and 70 (-1) for a career-best 212 (-1) and finished in a tie for seventh place out of 90 golfers. The Worthing, England native’s seventh place finish is the freshman’s top finish of the season and second top 10 finish. He also tied for 10th at the USF Invitational, Mar. 2-4.
At the FAU Spring Break Championship last week, Lelliott carded 11 total birdies and recorded an eagle in the final round.
The freshman’s three-round score of 212 was seven strokes better than his season-best of 219 which he recorded at the USF Invitational.
Lelliott becomes just the second DePaul golfer to earn the league’s Player of the Week honor since the Blue Demons joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06. Current DePaul senior Moritz Ackerhans was named the conference’s Golfer of the Week on Mar. 30, 2011.
The Blue Demons return to action, at the Red Wolves Intercollegiate, April 7-8 in Jonesboro, Ark.
