Golf in Third Place After Round One of Beu/Mussatto Invitational



Round One Results

MACOMB, Ill. – The DePaul golf team sits in third place after Friday’s opening round of the Beu/Mussatto Invitational.  The Blue Demons enter Saturday’s final round trailing tournament host and field leader Western Illinois by eight strokes at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course.

 

Freshman Greg Doherty carded a 76 to lead DePaul through a first round marked with challenging weather conditions that included snow flurries.  He heads into the final 18 holes tied for fourth place in the individual standings with John Danielson of Indian Hill Community College.

 

Juniors Will Cumberland and Matthew McMahon each posted a first round score of 79 and are tied for 12th place with two other golfers.  Sophomore Cory Blenkush shot an 86 to share a six-way tie for 60th, while sophomore Nick Martin carded an 89 and is locked with five other golfers for 75th.

 

The Blue Demons hold a combined score of 320, while the Leathernecks sit atop the team standings with a score of 312.  Eric Johnson of North Dakota State leads the individual standings after shooting a one-under-par 71.

 

Saturday’s final round of 18 holes tees off at 10 a.m.
