Golf Continues Season at Fighting Illini Invitational
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s golf team travels downstate this weekend for the Fighting Illini Spring Invitational. The three-round tournament runs Saturday and Sunday at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana, Illinois. The Blue Demons join 10 teams for two rounds of competition on Saturday and the final 18 holes on Sunday. Each day begins with an 8 a.m. (CST) shotgun start. In addition to host Illinois, the field includes Bradley, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, IUPUI, Loyola-Chicago, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Western Illinois. Stone Creek Golf Club features a par-72, 7,118-yard course designed by Tim and Dick Nugent. Earlier this week, DePaul took 11th place at the Arkansas State Indian Classic. Senior Matthew McMahon paced the Blue Demons as he tied for 16th place in the individual standings with a 54-hole score of 211. Junior Cory Blenkush trailed McMahon by four strokes and earned a tie for 41st place with a score of 215. Throughout the 2007-08 campaign, Blenkush leads DePaul with a team-best scoring average of 73.55. McMahon averages 73.70 shots per round and sophomore Greg Doherty holds a scoring average of 74.48.
