Martin Takes Second Place at Fighting Illini Invitational
URBANA, Ill. Junior Nick Martin earned a second place finish in the individual standings on Sunday as the DePaul men’s golf team closed out the Fighting Illini Spring Invitational. The Blue Demons placed fifth in the team standings following the two-round tournament at Stone Creek Golf Club. Martin capped a final round of 74 on Sunday after opening the tournament with a 75 on Saturday. His 36-hole total of 149 placed him one stroke behind tournament winner Matt Hoffman of Illinois. Junior Cory Blenkush landed in a four-way tie for seventh place with a two-round total of 153. He carded a final round of 79 after opening with a 74 on Saturday. Freshman Charles Boucher followed in a four-way for 36th place with rounds of 77 and 83. Senior Matthew McMahon earned a tie for 54th place after shooting rounds of 83 and 84. Junior Paul Watt competed as an individual. He tied six golfers for 13th place with a two-round score of 155. Host Illinois won the team title with a combined score of 609, while Southern Illinois followed in second place with a score of 616. The Blue Demons posted a total of 624 to finish ahead of Illinois State, Loyola-Chicago, Western Illinois, Detroit Mercy, IUPUI and Bradley. DePaul returns to competition this week at the Wiscon Corporation Invitational in Mundelein, Illinois. The tournament, hosted by Loyola-Chicago, runs Monday and Tuesday at Pine Meadow Golf Club.
