Blue Demons Finish Red Wolf Classic
JONESBORO, Ark. - Following a slow start to open the Red Wolf Classic, senior Greg Doherty closed the tournament with a two-under 70 to lead the DePaul golf team. Doherty finished in a tie for 31st while Charles Boucher was in a group in 65th. Doherty shot an 81 in the opening round on Monday morning before coming back in the second round with an impressive score of 69. He didn't let up in Tuesday's final 18 holes as he finished the tournament with a 70. His three-round score of 220 put him at four-over for the tournament. Boucher shot a one-over 73 in the final round on Tuesday after posting rounds of 76 and 78 on Monday. He was in a group in 65th with a total of 230 (+11) while Mike Tuel followed in a tie for 80th. Tuel carded a 75 after rounds of 75 and 80 on Monday for a tournament score of 230 (+14). Russell Budd was fourth among the DePaul contingent in a group in 85th and Eric Peterson finished in 97th place. Budd posted rounds of 78, 77, and 78 for 233 (+17) while Peterson shot an 82 to follow an 80 and a 77 for a total of 239 (+23). John Pavelko played as an individual and finished in 99th place. He shot an 85 and a 78 on Monday before an 81 on Tuesday. Middle Tennessee State claimed the team title with a three-round score of 858 (-6) and was followed by Central Arkansas at 860 (-4). DePaul put together a team score of 906 (+42) to finish in 18th place. Middle Tennessee's Jason Millard was the individual medalist with a tournament score of 209 (-7). DePaul heads to Florida for the BIG EAST Championship later this week. The three-round, three-day tournament takes place at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla. and starts on Sunday, April 18.
