CHICAGO - DePaul head men's golf coach Betty Kaufmann announced on Tuesday that James Lelliott and Jonathan Hewett have both signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) and will join the Blue Demon program for the 2013-14 season.
"We are excited to have both James and Jonathan join our Blue Demon family," Kaufmann said of her two Spring signees. "With both players coming from South East England and have played some of the premiere courses in the world - they will both be strong additions to our team."
"James is solid player with International experience," Kaufmann said of Lelliott who has captured the championship honors at the IField and the Worthing Under-18 tournaments.
"James has good length off the tee and a solid short game. He is improving daily and we are excited to have him," Kaufmann added.
Along with winning two tournaments in 2012, Lelliott was also a top 40 finisher at the Doral Publix Junior. A member of the Under 18 Elite squad in Great Britain, Lelliott also plays for the Southeast England AASE squad.
A finalist for the 2012 Champions of England Golf's National Skills Challenge, Hewett won the Clacton Junior Championship and was the runner-up for that tournament's men's championship. Hewett was also the runner-up for the Upminster trophy and finished fourth in the county order of merit.
"Jonathan's game is continually improving and we look for him to bring that experience to our team," Kaufmann said. "We are excited to have Jonathan and look forward to him joining us in Lincoln Park next season."
Lelliott and Hewett join Jonathan Goldstein, who signed his NLI in the fall. The three incoming freshmen will replace Russell Budd, John Pavelko and Brad Stephens, who will all graduate in June.
The Blue Demons close out their 2012-13 season at the BIG EAST Conference Championship - April 28-30 at the Reunion Golf Club in Florida.
