Golf Signs Michael Furci to National Letter of Intent

CHICAGO DePaul men’s golf coach Betty Kaufmann announced the signing of Michael Furci to a National Letter of Intent this week.  Furci comes from Sayville, New York to join the Blue Demons as a freshman during the 2008-09 season.

“Michael brings a strong swing and a very good feel for the game,” Kaufmann said.  “He is an excellent addition to our program and will adapt well to collegiate competition.”

Furci serves as team captain for his squad at Sayville High School and competes as an individual in premiere junior events across the nation.  He took medalist honors at the Long Island Junior Qualifier and was the runner-up in match play.  He placed fourth at the 2007 Mystic Dunes Open and took seventh place at the Carter Cup Invitational.  In addition, he qualified for the 2008 Met Amateur Championship.

While competing for Sayville, Furci helped lead his squad to the 2007 Suffolk County Championship.

Furci joins Ben Westley of Minneapolis, Minnesota in Kaufmann’s 2008-09 freshman class.

DePaul took seventh place earlier this week at the BIG EAST Conference Championship in Hebron, Kentucky.  Sophomore Greg Doherty led the Blue Demons and earned a tie for 14th place in the individual standings.
