Michael Furci Cards Low Amateur Round at New York State Open

CHICAGO – DePaul rising sophomore golfer Michael Furci recently earned low amateur honors at the New York State Open. Furci finished ninth overall at the three-round tournament at Bethpage Black – site of the 2009 U.S. Open earlier this summer.

Furci fired rounds of 74 and 74 before finishing with a one-under 69 on the third day of the three-day tournament from July 21-23. The final round featured three birdies and 13 pars. The native of Sayville, N.Y., finished five strokes ahead of the next-highest amateur.

Up next on his busy summer schedule are qualifiers for the Met Open and the U.S. Amateur. Already this summer, he has finished tied for fifth at the Brae Burn Invitational (70-78) on June 16 and also tied for fifth at the New York City Amateur (71-73-72) in late May.
