Hewett, Thomas Named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars

CHICAGO – DePaul golfers Jonathan Hewett and Freddy Thomas were honored this week with the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars for 2016-17. The duo were among 260 NCAA Division I student-athletes recognized for academic excellence.

Hewett earned the honors for the second time in his career and this year’s selection is the first for Thomas. Both were named All-BIG EAST this season with Hewett on the first team and Thomas on the second team. Thomas is the ninth DePaul golfer to reach All-American Scholar status since 2009.

A new record number of student-athletes earned All-America Scholar status including 260 in Division I, 108 in Division II and 20 in NAIA. Additionally, 46 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Srixon/Cleveland All-America Scholars.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
