CHICAGO - Highlighted by four Fall tournaments including the John Dallio Memorial, and eight tournaments in the Spring, DePaul head golf coach Betty Kaufmann announced her team's 2012-13 schedule.
"Our schedule this year is very challenging and competitive," Kaufmann said. "We have been invited to tournaments that have top 100 teams so we will be challenged each week."
"The Fall schedule should really give us an idea of where we are at nationally and what we need to do to prepare for the Spring," Kaufmann added.
The Blue Demon roster which includes eight returners - including Moritz Ackerhans, Russell Budd and Jan Juelicher, who all boasted a stroke average below 76 - begin their season at Colorado State's Ram Masters Invitational Sept. 17-18. The tournament is scheduled to be played at the Fort Collins Country Club.
The next weekend the Blue Demons return to the Midwest to play at the Windom Memorial at the Skokie Country Club. Hosted by Northwestern, the Memorial runs Sept. 23-24.
DePaul hosts its annual John Dallio Memorial, Oct. 6-7 at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont. The Blue Demons welcome Western Illinois, Valparaiso, Marquette, Loyola-Chicago, Columbia, Chicago State, Oakland, SIU--Edwardsville, Northern Illinois, Evansville, Northern Iowa, Eastern Illinois, IUPUI and Green Bay for the two-day tournament which honors the memory of former DePaul Golfer John Dallio.
The Blue Demons close out the Fall portion of their schedule at the Georgetown Intercollegiate. Last season Ackerhans and Budd finished in the top 20 while the Blue Demons finished in sixth as a team.
Kaufmann looks forwards to her team's spring season that kicks off with the Match Play (Feb. 11-12) at the Reunion Resort, which is also the site of the 2013 BIG EAST Championship.
"Our Spring schedule should challenge us and prepare us for the Big East Championship," Kaufmann added.
With the Match Play in the books, DePaul squares off with Ohio University at the Chechessee Creek Club in Okatie, South Carolina on Feb. 16.
The Blue Demons close February at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Feb. 18-19. A year ago, DePaul tied for 15th at the Hilton Head, South Carolina course.
DePaul travels to the Memphis Intercollegiate (Mar. 25-26) and then to Delray Beach, Florida for the Spring Break Invitational (Mar. 29-31) during the month of March.
The Blue Demons final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championship is at the Glen Club for the Northwestern Spring Invitational, April 15-16.
DePaul returns to the Reunion Club for the BIG EAST Championship, April 28-30.
