McMahon Paces Golf in Season Opening Meet
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Matthew McMahon finished in the top 20 and DePaul took ninth in the team standings at the John Piper Intercollegiate golf tournament that concluded today.
The event was the season opening performance for the Blue Demons.
McMahon, a sophomore from Brockville, Ontario, carded rounds of 77-70-73 to finish with a 220 total and tied for 20th place overall. It was the 10th time in 11 career starts that McMahon has finished first for the Blue Demons.
Freshman Nick Martin, playing in his collegiate debut, finished second for DePaul and tied for 27th overall after shooting a three-round total of 223 (77-72-74).
The Blue Demons finished ninth in the tightly bunched team standings with a team total of 889. DePaul was only five shots out of fifth place.
The Blue Demons will be in action again on Monday when they open play in the Butler Fall Invitational at Indianapolis, Ind.
