Golf Wins Butler Fall Invitational
INDIANAPOLIS – DePaul placed four players among the top 17 including Matthew McMahon finishing in a tie for second as the Blue Demons captured the team title at the Butler Fall Invitational at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
The Blue Demons carded consecutive rounds of 284 to post an even par 568, six shots better than second place Southern Illinois. The tournament title is DePaul’s second in the last two seasons as the Blue Demons won Eastern Illinois’ Ironhorse Intercollegiate in October.
Individually, DePaul dominated play as it had four players finish among the tournament’s top 17 led by sophomore Matthew McMahon who shot a five-under-par 137 (69-68) to finish tied for second one shot behind the leader. It was the 11th time in his 12 career tournaments that McMahon has finished first for the Blue Demons.
Sophomore Michael Gammon carded a one-under-par 141 and finished alone in fourth.
A pair of freshmen continued to impress as well. Nick Martin had a two-over-par 144 and finished in a tie for eighth while Cory Blenkush was four over at 146 and tied for 17th.
The Blue Demons will return to action again next Monday when they host the annual John Dallio Memorial Invitational at Prairie Landing Golf Club in West Chicago.
