CHICAGO – The DePaul golf team opens its 2017-18 season at the third annual NKU Fall Classic this weekend. The three-round, two-day event is scheduled for Sept. 24-25 at Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio.
The Blue Demons join host Northern Kentucky and BIG EAST Conference rival Butler on the course along with teams from Cal Poly, Detroit Mercy, Evansville, Green Bay, Fort Wayne, Morehead State, Oakland, Robert Morris, Savannah State, Wright State and Youngstown State. Elks Run features a 6,845-yard layout with a par 71.
A shot gun start is slated for Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET and the teams will play 36 holes while 18 holes are scheduled for Monday. Monday’s final round will begin at 9 a.m. ET with teams teeing off based on standings. Live stats for the tournament can be followed on Golfstat.
DePaul’s lineup for the first event of the season includes Bobby Thomas, Freddy Thomas, Garret Buckley, Charlie Spencer-White and Joe McCarthy.
DePaul returns two of its top three performers from last season in Buckley and Freddy Thomas. Buckley finished ninth at the 2017 BIG EAST Championship followed by Thomas in 18th place. Buckley joined the Blue Demons for the spring season after transferring from Loyola and finished the season with a scoring average of 74.42 over 12 rounds. Thomas played in 27 rounds during his junior campaign with a scoring average of 74.48.
Following the NKU Fall Classic, DePaul is back in action at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge, Sept. 29 - Oct. 1.
