Blue Demons Hold 10-Stroke Lead Through Two Rounds
LEMONT, Ill. - Windy conditions at Ruffled Feathers GC made playing conditions a little tougher than normal and it reflected in the scores with just seven rounds under par over the first 36 holes of action. Through two rounds at the John Dallio Memorial, DePaul sits atop the team leaderboard with a 10-stroke advantage while Greg Doherty and Charles Boucher hold down the top two spots individually. Doherty stands in first place with a two-round total of 141 (-3). He's joined by Boucher and USF's Devin Hernandez as the only players in the 86-player field to be under par following the first day of action. It was a full day on the course as Doherty finished his round well after sunset and barely ahead of complete darkness. He carded a 68 in the first round behind five birdies, including four straight around the turn before an eagle on the par-five sixth hole and three back-nine birdies to finish at 73 in the afternoon round. Boucher stood at three-under through the first seven holes of the morning session before finishing his first 18 holes with a one-under 71. He followed with a second-round score of 72 for a first-day total of 143 (-1). Boucher's second round started with three bogies in the first eight holes before he rallied for three birdies on the back nine. Michael Fuci stands as the third Blue Demon in the top 10 after a two-round total of 147 (+3). After a 76 to start the tournament, Furci settled down and notched DePaul's best round of the afternoon's 18 holes with a one-under 71. Following Furci is Russell Budd in a tie for 33rd and Ben Westley in a group at 52nd. Budd fired rounds of 78 and 75 for a first-day score of 153 (+9) while Westley totaled 155 (+11) after rounds of 82 and 73. Erik Peterson, Brad Stephens, John Pavelko and Charlie Harris are all competing this weekend as individuals with Peterson leading the pack at 166 followed by Stephens and Pavelko at 167. Harris rounds out the DePaul contingent with a two-round total of 170. DePaul leads the field with a team score of 582 (+6). The Blue Demons are followed by Western Illinois, Detroit, Georgetown and Nova Southeastern. Western Illinois is at 592 (+16) while Detroit stands at 594 (+18). Hernandez his even with Boucher in a tie for second with identical rounds of 71 and 72 (143). Three players sit in a group at fourth place. Luke Joy of Drake, Thomas Greene from Loyola-Chicago and Detroit's David Byrne are all at even-par 144 through two rounds. Byrne carded the low round of the tournament on the first day with a 66 in the second round while Greene shot a 69 on Sunday afternoon as well. After warm temperatures on Sunday, windy and cool conditions are expected overnight and into Monday at Ruffled Feathers GC. The third and final round starts with tee times beginning at 7:10 a.m. on the first and 10th holes.
