Golf Takes Sixth Place at John Dallio Memorial
LEMONT, Ill. The DePaul men’s golf team finished sixth in the team standings as the John Dallio Memorial Tournament came to a close on Tuesday. Sophomore Greg Doherty paced the Blue Demons throughout their annual tournament at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club.
Doherty posted a final round of 83 on Tuesday after carding scores of 74 and 69 on Monday. His 54-hole total of 226 earned part of a four-way tie for 16th in the individual standings.
Senior Will Cumberland shot a 78 over the final 18 holes, bringing his three-round total to 227. He finished one stroke behind Doherty in a four-way tie for 20th. Senior Matthew McMahon followed with a 54-hole score of 229 and tied five other golfers for 27th, while junior Cory Blenkush posted a three-round total of 230 and finished in a five-way tie for 33rd. Senior Michael Gammon carded a 54-hole score of 241 and earned a tie for 63rd.
Junior Nick Martin competed as an individual and finished 10th among all golfers as he matched his collegiate personal-best total of 223. Sophomore Charles Boucher also played as an individual and tied for 58th with a score of 238.
Detroit Mercy topped the field of 13 squads with a combined score of 880. The Titans turned a seven stroke deficit into a 10 stroke advantage during the final round as they took the lead from Northern Iowa. DePaul combined for a score of 909 and finished three strokes behind the fifth-place team, Western Illinois.
Jordan Weber of Northern Iowa won the individual title with a three-round score of 217. He narrowly edged David Byrne of Detroit Mercy and Drew Miller of Illinois State, who tied for second place with scores of 218.
The Blue Demons return to action next week at Northwestern’s Windon Memorial Classic. The tournament runs October 7-8 at Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Illinois.
