DePaul Captains' Council Elects 2011-12 Officers

CHICAGO - The DePaul athletics department announced today that the DePaul Captains' Council has elected its officers for the 2011-12 academic year. The Council is DePaul's representational body for student-athletes.
Women's basketball's Deanna Ortiz was elected as the council's president is joined by vice president Ben Westley from men's golf. Melissa Fraser from track and field is the internal communications officer and the external communications office is Gia McKnight from women's tennis. Matthew Graham from the cross country and track and field programs was elected a treasurer.
The Captains' Council is a student organization comprised of captains from each of DePaul's 15 intercollegiate athletics programs that works with the athletics department administration on a variety of issues and events. The officers were selected by their peers.
Among the many duties of the Captains' Council, it serves as a formal forum for student-athletes of DePaul University, as a voice for all student-athletes in the athletics department, ensures that all student-athletes remain integrated into the University community, follows and upholds the Vincentian beliefs of DePaul University, and develops service initiatives that represent the values of the University, the athletics department, and the Captains' Council.
