Golf Closes Out Windon Memorial Classic



GLENCOE, Ill. Senior Matthew McMahon finished one-under-par and earned a tie for 10th place as the DePaul men’s golf team concluded the Windon Memorial Golf Classic on Monday.  The Blue Demons placed 12th in the team standings following Northwestern’s three-round tournament at Lake Shore Country Club.

 

McMahon carded a par round of 71 on Monday after posting scores of 69 and 72 on Sunday for a season-best total of 212.  He finished six shots off the lead in a four-way tie for 10th place.  Junior Cory Blenkush also shot a final round of 71 after recording scores of 70 and 74 on Monday.  He earned part of a six-way tie for 16th place with a three-round score of 215.

 

Sophomore Greg Doherty closed the tournament with a round of 75 and tied two other golfers for 60th place with a three-round total of 229.  Senior Will Cumberland followed in a tie for 64th with a 54-hole score of 231, while junior Nick Martin placed 66th with a total of 237.

 

Northwestern edged Kent State by one stroke and won the team title with a combined score of 848.  The Blue Demons posted a total of 880 to place three strokes behind 11th place Missouri.  BIG EAST Conference rival Marquette tied New Mexico for ninth place with a score of 872.

 

Mike Van Sickle of Marquette and Clayton Rask of Minnesota tied for the individual title with seven-under-par scores of 206.

 

The Blue Demons return to action in two weeks at the Georgetown Hoya Intercollegiate.  The two-day tournament runs October 22-23 at the Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Maryland.
