Blue Demons Tee It Up at Georgetown Intercollegiate
CHICAGO - The Blue Demons continue the Fall portion of the 2009-10 season at the Georgetown Intercollegiate this week. The 25th annual Georgetown Intercollegiate will be held on Monday and Tuesday at The Members Club at Four Stream. A total of 12 teams will face the challenging layout designed by PGA Tour veteran Nick Price and famed golf architect Steve Smyers.
The par-71, 7,102-yard course, the home for the Georgetown University men's and women's programs, is set amidst the rolling Maryland farmland and has quickly become one of Maryland's finest golf facilities. The field tees off on Monday morning at 8 a.m. ET for 36 holes with the final 18 holes starting on Tuesday at 8 a.m. ET.
Blue Demons Capture Dallio Titles: Greg Doherty birdied three of his last four holes to come from behind and win the individual title while leading the Blue Demons to the team crown at the John Dallio Memorial at Ruffled Feathers GC. Doherty fired a three-round total of 217 to finish a stroke ahead of teammate Charles Boucher, Western Illinois' Kyle Peterman and David Byrne from Detroit.
Doherty shot a 76 in the final round for a tournament total of 217 (+1). He stood at five-over par overall heading into the final four holes of the tournament before carding birdies on 15, 17 and 18. The win for Doherty was his first outright championship as a collegiate player.
Boucher finished in a group at second place, just one stroke behind Doherty, with a two-day score of 218 (+2) while Michael Furci finished in a tie for sixth place and Russell Budd was 11th.
The Blue Demons won the tournament team title by 18 strokes with a team total of 880 (+16). Detroit finished second at 898 (+34) and Western Illinois was third with a team score of 901 (+37).
The Fall Schedule: The Georgetown Intercollegiate is the fourth of five events on the fall schedule. DePaul was eighth of 17 teams at the Adams Cup of Newport, Sept. 21-22 before winning the John Dallio Memorial. Two weeks ago, the Blue Demons finished sixth of 12 teams at the Xavier Invitational. The Match Play - featuring BIG EAST programs in a match-play tournament - in Southern Pines, N.C. concludes the fall schedule, Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
