Doherty Takes Second at BIG EAST-MAC Challenge

WINTER GARDEN, Fla.- Freshman Greg Doherty carded a four-under par final round on Sunday to finish second in the individual standings and lead the DePaul golf team at this weekend’s BIG EAST-MAC Challenge.  The Blue Demons placed sixth as a team in the three round tournament hosted by Marquette at the Orange County National Golf Center.

 

Doherty’s final round of 68 combined with Saturday’s rounds of 70-72 for a total score of 210, just one stroke behind tournament winner Ben Sieg of Marquette.  Doherty’s performance on Sunday also matched the 68 posted by Zach Jecklin of Northern Illinois for the lowest single-round score of the weekend.

 

Sophomore Colin Piercy ranked second for DePaul, carding a combined score of 223 to tie Brandon Lee of South Florida and Dan McIntyre of Bowling Green for 25th.  Sophomore Cory Blenkush picked up the third finish for the Blue Demons, landing in a five-way tie for 28th with a score of 224.

 

DePaul posted a team score of 885 over 54 holes to finish three strokes behind state rival Northern Illinois and seven strokes off BIG EAST rival St. John’sAkron took the team crown with a final score of 863.

 

The tournament concludes DePaul’s fall schedule.  The Blue Demons spring campaign commences February 19, 2007 at the Roadrunner Intercollegiate in San Antonio, Texas.
