Golf Signs Ben Westley to a National Letter of Intent
CHICAGO DePaul men’s golf head coach Betty Kaufmann announced the signing of Ben Westley to a National Letter of Intent this week. Westley hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota and joins the Blue Demons as a freshman during the 2008-09 campaign.
Westley plays for Minneapolis South High School and competes as an individual in junior events on the local, state and national levels. This summer saw him tie for 13th overall at the American Junior Golf Association Midwest Players Championship. Westley also tied for 39th at the Minnesota Amateur Championship. In addition, he won the 2006 Minnesota Players’ Tour Match Championship and placed seventh out of 83 golfers at the 2007 AJGA Medicus Preseason Junior.
While competing for Minneapolis South, Westley took eighth place at the 2007 Minnesota Class AA State Championship. He was the 2007 Section 5AA Medalist and won three conference titles. Westley holds Minnesota’s top ranking for his class.
“Ben’s experience in AJGA national competitions establishes him a proven player. He possesses skills in every aspect of the game and will make an immediate impact at DePaul,” Kaufmann said.
The Blue Demons closed out their fall tournament schedule on October 28 as they placed second at the BIG EAST-MAC Challenge in Orlando, Florida. DePaul resumes competition on Monday, February 18 at the Texas-San Antonio Invitational.
