Blue Demons Equalize in Preseason Opener
Aug. 15, 2012
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - In its first warm-up contest of the 2012 preseason, the DePaul men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with host Michigan on Wednesday morning thanks to a late equalizer by the Blue Demons. After the contest's initial goal by the Wolverines in the 26th minute, the score remained 1-0 into halftime. The second half of play is when the action picked up. In the 65th minute, freshman Michael Kozielek sent in a cross on the ground that eluded the Michigan defenders in front. On a sprint from wide right, sophomore David Selvaggi--a BIG EAST All-Rookie Team member last season--redirected the one-timer from six yards out into the back of the net, knotting the score at 1-1. Just five minutes later, however, Michigan got their rebuttal. With a Blue Demon defender whistled for a hand ball in the box, Michigan converted the ensuing penalty kick to regain its one-goal advantage. In the closing minutes, DePaul was awarded a penalty kick of its own. In the 86th minute, the Wolverine keeper was called for a foul when he brought down sophomore Thiago Ganancio inside the box. A familiar sight followed as Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Antonio Aguilar added a successful penalty kick to even the match at 2-2. The Blue Demons have scheduled two more preseason exhibitions before their August 24 home opener at Wish Field. DePaul next travels to Northern Illinois on Saturday to take on the Huskies in a 4 p.m. matchup. The Blue Demons' final exhibition contest is set for Monday when they travel to Milwaukee in a 4 p.m. game.
