Blue Demons Draw with Providence in BIG EAST Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The DePaul men’s soccer team’s BIG EAST opener against Providence ended in a scoreless draw on Saturday evening as the Blue Demons outshot the Friars 14-9 in 110 minutes of play.

While the Friars (2-3-1) outpaced DePaul (3-3-1) in the first half with a 5-to-1 shot margin, the Blue Demons would dominate the second half of play leading to an 11-2 shot margin in favor of DePaul.  Senior goalkeeper Quentin Low made five saves in the contest while the Blue Demon backline posted its first shutout of the season.

DePaul’s closest attempt at a victory in regulation came in the 86th minute when Bryan Simons’ shot skipped off the fingertips of the Providence keeper on a chance from four yards out.

Both teams tallied two shots in the extra periods of play but the match ended without a goal.

The Blue Demons now return to Wish Field for a three-match homestand featuring Bradley (Sept. 20) and BIG EAST rivals Georgetown (Sept. 23) and Villanova (Sept. 30).  First touch against the Bradley Braves is set for 3 p.m.
