SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – While the DePaul men’s soccer team held an early 1-0 lead against its BIG EAST rival Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon, the Pirates used two second half goals to defeat the Blue Demons 2-1.

DePaul (4-6-1, 1-2-1 BIG EAST) took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on a right-footed strike by Zach El-Shafei.  The sophomore’s shot from outside the box nicked off Seton Hall defender Lukas Pangonis and spun into the lower right-hand corner of the net.

Seconds later, the Blue Demons narrowly missed a 2-0 advantage over the Pirates when a goal by Stijn van der Slot was called back due to an offside call.  DePaul had a three-on-one effort against Seton Hall where a right to left cross from El-Shafei placed van der Slot just out of position when the touch was received.

While Seton Hall led the shots (8-6) and corners (3-1) battle heading into the intermission, the Blue Demons held the 1-0 advantage at the break.

Seton Hall (5-6-1, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) netted the equalizer in the 60th minute on a shot by Andres Arcila.  The midfielder won a ball played in by Jonathan Jimenez and tapped a quick, left-footed touch into the right side of the net past the diving DePaul goalkeeper Quentin Low.

In 65th minute, Low stepped up for the Blue Demons and kept the match at 1-1, making a glove save on a point-blank attempt by Seton Hall’s Marco Neves.

The Pirates landed the go-ahead score in the 86th minute on a one-timer by Pangonis.  Juan Camilo lifted a cross from outside the box to Gaspa Jean-Baptiste who headed to the ball to Pangonis who tapped in the game-winner.

The Blue Demons will return to Wish Field on Wed., Oct. 11 where DePaul will battle its crosstown rival Northwestern at 3 p.m.
