Blue Demons Drop 2-0 Road Decision to No. 20 Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The DePaul men’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 road decision to No. 20 Butler on Saturday in its fifth BIG EAST match of the season.

Butler (8-4, 4-1 BIG EAST) struck first in the 10th minute as Brandon Guhl intercepted a clearance by DePaul’s goalkeeper Quentin Low and chipped a shot into the right side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

DePaul (4-8-1, 1-3-1 BIG EAST) had four consecutive chances to net the equalizer in the 70th and 71st minutes, but each of the attempts from the feet of Zach El-Shafei and Philipp Konigstein were deflected by Butler’s goalkeeper Eric Dick.

The Bulldogs scored an insurance goal in the 80th minute when Alex Lehtinen pushed a cross through the middle of the box to Guhl who slid through the six and tapped in his second goal of the night, netting his ninth goal of the season to lead the BIG EAST.

The Blue Demons managed 14 shots in the contest with six landing on goal.  Both sides combined for 14 corners, splitting the total with seven apiece.

DePaul will take a break from BIG EAST action as the Blue Demons travel to Hoyne Field to renew their Red Line Rivalry with Loyola Chicago on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.  The match between the two Chicago rivals will be broadcasted live on the ESPN3.
