CHICAGO - There was no mistaking the look of disappointment etched across the face of DePaul soccer coach Craig Blazer.

After playing well in six previous matches, the Blue Demons had a letdown in Saturday's 1-0 BIG EAST Conference loss to Rutgers at Wish Field.

It pained Blazer to recount certain moments of the setback---most of all the way Rutgers (7-5-1, 4-1-0 in the BIG EAST) scored the winning goal.

In the 10th minute, DePaul goalkeeper Eric Sorby came way out to gather in a ball that escaped his grasp and bounced just outside the box.

During a scramble for the ball, Rutgers forward Ibrahim Kamara got off a weak shot just inside the box that rolled ever so slowly towards an empty net.

The ball glanced off the post and trickled beyond the goal line as Sorby made a desperate attempt to stop it.

"It's so disappointing that we gave a team in good form a goal to start the game," Blazer said. "That was very immature on our part.

"But we still had 80 minutes to find the tying goal and couldn't convert on our chances."

The best opportunity came in the 61st minute when Wes Vallentine fielded a pass on the run in the center of the field from Antonio Aguilar and was 1v1 with Scarlet Knights goalkeeper Kevin McMullen.

Vallentine fired a shot that wound up a few feet feet above the crossbar.

Later in the second half, John Jandl missed on a header in front of the net.

"We did better in the second half, and Sorby was outstanding," Blazer said. "The tying goal was there.

"Curtis Weir played his best game this season. He gave us a consistent effort and played within himself. He played both sides of the ball, completed passes and defended well. I also thought Anthony Hunter had a good game for us today.

"Ultimately, we are all accountable for giving up a goal and not scoring a goal."

DePaul (4-8-2, 1-3-1) looks to get back on the BIG EAST winning track with a 6 p.m. match Wednesday at Cincinnati.
