Men's Soccer Adds Two Recruits to its Class of 2017
June 23, 2017

CHICAGO – DePaul men’s soccer has added two more recruits to its versatile class of 2017 as the Blue Demons will welcome seven new faces to Lincoln Park.

Defender Nico Cardona was the captain of the Puerto Rico U-20 team while midfielder-forward Luc Fougere is a local prospect who attended the British International School of Chicago and played for the Chicago Fire Juniors City U-18 team.

As a junior, Cardona was captain of his Academia del Perpetuo Socorro high school team and led his club team GPS Conquistadores de Guaynabo to the Liga Bayamon championship and runner-up of Copa Bayamon. He spent his senior year in Spain and was co-captain of Levante UD International Youth Academy.

“Nico brings a tremendous amount of international experience playing on the Puerto Rican U-20 team and also one year in Spain,” said DePaul coach Craig Blazer. “After he attended one of our camps, the entire coaching staff felt Nico would be an outstanding fit for our program.”

Fougere led the 2017 Chicago Fire Juniors City U-18 team to the State Cup finals and led his side in scoring with 16 goals and eight assists. He led British International School to the Lakeshore Athletic League championship.

“We have known about Luc for a number of years when he attended our camps,” Blazer said. “He is a very skilled and technical player who has matured into a Division I prospect. Luc has tremendous passion and determination, and as a left-footed player will help us as a left midfielder or left forward.

“We’d like to welcome Nico, Luc and their families to DePaul and look forward to all the contributions they will make this fall and in the future.”

They join a recruiting class that features forward-midfielder Cameron Beezley from Lakes High School and the Sockers FC Chicago, midfielder Tim Iscra of Glenbrook North and FC United, defender Eddie Perry from St. Thomas Academy and the Minnesota Thunder, Netherlands midfielder Bryan Simons of Trevianum and EVV Echt plus midfielder Istvan Wilhelms from Shattuck-St. Mary’s and the San Diego Aztecs.
