DePaul Kicks Off Preseason on Wednesday
Aug. 14, 2012
CHICAGO - With the regular season rapidly approaching, the DePaul men's soccer team heads out to Ann Arbor, Mich., on Wednesday morning for a 10 a.m. exhibition against the University of Michigan. The preseason contest is the first of three for the Blue Demons before they kick off the regular season on August 24 at home. Coming off a season in which they finished 6-11-2 and tied for fifth place in the BIG EAST, the Blue Demons will rely on a core group of veterans--along with several new faces--to improve in the 2012 campaign. Though four members of last year's squad have graduated, DePaul returns senior and Preseason All-BIG EAST team member Antonio Aguilar. Aguilar, the Blue Demons' leading point-getter, finished last season with seven goals--tied for most on the team with then-freshman and current sophomore David Selvaggi--and a team-high four assists. Both Aguilar and Selvaggi recorded two game-winning goals each last season. Their efforts planted Aguilar on the All-BIG EAST First Team and placed Selvaggi on the All-BIG EAST Rookie Team in 2011. The veterans are not the only ones expected to contribute for DePaul in 2012, however, as head coach Craig Blazer welcomed in eight incoming freshman this season. Following Wednesday's contest, the Blue Demons have scheduled two more road exhibitions before their season opener. DePaul heads to Northern Illinois on Saturday, August 18, before traveling to Milwaukee on Monday, August 20. DePaul's season opener is set for 1 p.m. on Friday, August 24 at Wish Field against cross-town rival UIC. Immediately following that match, the DePaul women's soccer team hits Wish Field for a 4 p.m. matchup against Ohio.
