Blue Demons Lose Home Opener to Eastern Illinois
After dropping a 1-0 decision on Friday night at Michigan, DePaul and Eastern Illinois provided plenty of offense Sunday afternoon at Wish Field. After the dust settled, the Panthers won the match, 6-2.
Both teams battled to a scoreless tie at halftime before Jason Thompson scored the game's first goal just over two minutes into the second half. Thompson scored three more goals in the match to finish the day with four scores.
The Panthers scored three more times before the Blue Demons answered with two goals over a three-minute span. Robert Marshall scored DePaul's first goal on a penalty kick at the 73:02 mark. Chris Greer made the match 4-2 at 75:40 with his first goal of the season. Shane Hudson set up Greer to tally his first assist of the year.
Eastern Illinois sealed the game on two late goals by Thompson and Jake Spain for the 6-2 victory.
The Blue Demons will be in action again on September 10 at Charlotte. The first Conference USA match is set for a 2 p.m. EST kickoff in Charlotte.
