Men's Soccer Drops Conference USA Opener at Marquette



Milwaukee, Wis. -- The city of Milwaukee proved to be unfriendly for the DePaul men's soccer team as they dropped their second straight match north of the border to Marquette. The Blue Demons lost to the Golden Eagles, 4-0, after falling to UW-Milwaukee on Saturday evening.

With a 23-5 advantage in shots taken, Marquette was able to score twice in the first half and two more times in the second. Derek Gutierrez found the net first in the fifth minute to give Marquette the 1-0 lead. The lead was increased to 2-0 at 18:44 when Sean Reti put the ball past DePaul goalkeeper Jeff Klitzke.

Marquette added two more goals in the second half by Chris Lee in the 57th minute and Eric Marshall with nine minutes left to play in the match.

With the loss, the Blue Demons fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in Conference USA play. The home opener for DePaul will be next Sunday when they host Detroit at noon. The DePaul women's team will follow with a match against UW-Green Bay.
